This is the trip information for the plane trip to Kingstown, St. Vincent.  This trip is a no stop flight and the fee is in Canadian Dollars.

Currency

The currency used in the islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is the East Caribbean Dollar.  The rate of exchange is:  1 Canadian Dollar (CAD) = 2.64 East Caribbean Dollar (XCD).
Most common items in St. Vincent are imported from far countries, and because St. Vincent is not a very wealthy country, the cost of common goods, such as, toothpaste, bottled water, milk, oranges, bread, etc. are tripled at the least.  For example if a loaf of bread here is 2 Canadian Dollars, then in St. Vincent, a loaf of bread is at least 6 Canadian dollars or about 16 East Caribbean dollars.  I suggest buying locally grown things such as bananas, plantain, sugar and more to avoid leakage, and to boost the economy.   Also, if you are renting a car, the price of gas is 12.5 east Caribbean dollars or 4.7 Canadian dollars per litre.  The tax in St. Vincent is 15% VAT (Value Added Tax), except when buying from a hotel or resort, the tax is 20%, 10% for VAT and 10% service charge.

Visas

Visas are not required to travel to ST. Vincent and the Grenadines unless you plan on working.

Travel Warnings

Although there are no official travel warnings for St. Vincent there are still some recommendations.  When travelling to St. Vincent, you should be cautious about a number of things:
Ø  Moderate crime rates
Ø  Poor health and medical care
Ø  Lack of paved roads and safe driving conditions
Ø  Unreliable public transportation
Ø  Strong currents and undertow when swimming in the ocean(avoid by swimming with people, before dark and avoid the areas where signs are provided)
Ø   Is a volcanic island and has a live volcano (although unlikely to erupt)
There is no Canadian Embassy in St. Vincent, but there is in a nearby island.  Bridgetown, Barbados has a Canadian embassy.

Health and Safety

The recommended shots are tetanus-diphtheria, Hepatitis A and B, Measles and mumps Rubella, Typhoid and Yellow Fever.  There are no serious threats, but these are for precaution.  There is a plant, much like Canada’s Poison Ivy, called the Manchineel tree, it has poisonous apple like fruit, and also the sap is poisonous as well and can cause severe blistering and is painful.  There are only 6 public hospitals and 3 private hospitals available, but the health care is sufficient if needed.

Arrival Accommodation

The reason I am travelling to St. Vincent is because I have a lot of family there, so when I land in E.T Joshua airport, Kingstown, I will have one of my aunts, uncles, or cousins pick me up and drive me to their house, because my father used to spend a lot of time down there and he is well known.  One of the great positives to this is, I do not need to worry about paying for a hotel, so that is money I can spend elsewhere, but as not to burden the family members, I will not stay at the same house for too long.  Luckily for me, I have a rather large family.
